A Little Preview of Whats Coming Next

After a little deliberation with my partner in crime when it comes to going to the movies, I decided that for this week’s new release I’ll be taking a look at Lawless. I know that its been out for a week or two now, but out of the rest of the movies playing at our little theater here in Allegany, it was the most appealing choice. If you haven’t seen the preview, I've included it to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.

One of the main reasons I’m eager to see Lawless is the actors involved. The movie stars Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf as bootlegging brothers. Which, at least for the female population, may be reason enough to spend money on a ticket to see those two on the big screen. In the past few years Tom Hardy has proved himself as quite a talent in films such as Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, in which he is unrecognizable in his portrayal of Bane. Of course, everyone (well at least everyone around my age) knows Shia LaBeouf from his Disney Channel days and Even Stevens. More recently he’s graced the big screen in the Transformers franchise.

Lawless, which is based on a true story, and novel, follows the three Bondurant brothers (Hardy, LaBeouf, and Jason Clarke) as they break the law in Virginia. Their crime of choice? Bootlegging during prohibition. The brothers seem to have a pretty successful business, but of course it is a movie, and there needs to be drama, so things turn south. Of course thats helped along by the preachers daughter, and a mobster, making the perfect recipe for disaster, gunfire, and good old fashioned punches. Hardy plays the leader of both the brothers and the bootlegging operation, Forrest Bondurant, who has to alter his business plan when both crooked cops and mobsters want their cut of the action, leading to the bloody showdowns most of us wait for during these movies anyway.

Hopefully Hardy and LaBeouf live up to their reputations and put on a good show. However, you’ll have to wait until my full review is up on Monday to see whether Lawless delivers the goods.
