Let me start off by saying that this past weekend was mid-semester break. For those of you outside the Bona Bubble, it means four glorious days of relaxation and saying you’re going to get caught up on work but never do. So, naturally, I’m a little behind... again. Anyway, tonight I’m finally going to a new movie. This week’s choice? The ensemble a-cappella comedy Pitch Perfect. Here’s the preview before I really get started:
Pitch Perfect chronicles the struggles of the Barden University “Bellas.” The Bella’s are an all-female a-cappella group that aren’t exactly in-tune with the 21st century. Their biggest competition is the all-male a-cappella group on campus- the “Treblemakers.” Of course the Treblemakers are awesome, and make it a regular habit to win competitions, while the Bella’s struggle to keep the audience from falling asleep. Enter freshman Beca, the typical rebellious, black eye-liner loving singer, who may just be able to liven up the Bella’s coma-inducing routines. Naturally, from the preview there appears to be a possible romance, which of course will sprinkle some drama into the mix.

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for movies that feature singing and dancing routines. I love the feeling of wanting to dance in my chair, or sing along. So, I’m really excited to see Pitch Perfect and have high expectations. Hopefully the flick doesn’t fall flat. (I know, not very original, but I couldn’t resist).
Taking a turn in the starring role as Beca is Twilight star Anna Kendrick. In case you’re not a Twi-hard, Kendrick has a smaller, supporting role in the franchise as one of protagonist Bella’s human friends. I’m looking forward to seeing how Kendrick leads the cast. Another one of the top-billers is Brittany Snow who portray’s one of the Bella’s head-honcho’s Chloe. Snow proved she can shine in a movie requiring vocal talent in 2007’s Hairspray.
However, the actor I’m most excited to see in their role is Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy. Wilson stole the show in Bridesmaids as an annoying roommate. The Australian actress has great comedic timing and I’m hoping she’ll make my sides hurt from laughing. Seeing as how I’ve already cracked up from what little I’ve seen of her in the preview, chances are there will be more of that in the actual movie.
So, if you want to find out if Pitch Perfect hit its mark, my full review should be up tomorrow, assuming I don’t fall behind again.
